Ted...that was really excellent. A great story but also great story telling. I like this medium and I wonder how it would have come across in written form?
Thank you, Kevin. I've thought about that. I just decided 24 hours before the event to tell this story, though I've considered doing so before in writing. I may still convert it to a piece of writing at some point. But there are elements of it that are fundamentally performative (the body language, the pulling out of the stuff at the end) that would be lost and pack a punch. Maybe I will try it and get back to you.
You may be interested in this piece in that respect. I came up with this story for live performance some years ago, but when I couldn't get traction at The Moth, I turned it into writing. This one totally works in either form, I think. Last night's? Perhaps not so much. But who knows. Good stuff to think about.
