When “Unsorted but Significant” started at the beginning of this year, I promised to play around with some experimental stuff around some of the themes at hand — memoir, family, culture. history and a changing world. Here’s an attempt at taking that to a new milieu: live storytelling.
Tonight I performed a piece at a Story Club Pittsburgh slam hosted by City of Asylum. This month’s theme was “Moving On or Moving Out.” This is a true story about the day in August 1974 when I was 6 years old and on a jetliner bound for our new home in Singapore, and almost caused an international incident.
I hope you enjoy “The In-Flight Incident.”
Thank you to the ever-supportive Melissa Rayworth for filming this. Check out her excellent Story Club appearances from the past year:
Ted...that was really excellent. A great story but also great story telling. I like this medium and I wonder how it would have come across in written form?
