I always thought of modern encroachment on resting places as disrespectful, but you're right that the dimension of time can't be discounted in considering the 'purity' of a place. Great piece -- and a not-so-subtle reminder to BK patrons about hastening their demise with each orbit of the drive-thru.
I've always loved highbrow AND lowbrow equally, and that probably figures into this. I like your comparison, though. I guess "A Whopper a day keeps the graveyard away" doesn't work.
When you can visit sites that startle and confuse, you know that time has begun to amuse. The touch of old and the noise of new, appear as a frayed quilt still warming you. Time, in these moments of revery, is multi directional and filled with much glee.
Look up the Crowley Mausoleum in the old Columbia Mall/Avondale Mall parking lot, in Decatur, GA. When Walmart bought the mall and tore it down for a Walmart Supercenter, they didn't buy the mausoleum. They kind of carved it out of the parking lot.
Edward Mason Anthony Jr. was right that "every grave is an entire story that you may never know," so I'm grateful I now know this vivid, well-narrated one about Jane Adelaid Anthony Vaughan.

There is something very "Mike Judge"-esque about this article.
It is dryly absurd (pardon me, as I do actually find humor in this) while pointing out the juxtaposition of "Fast Food" vs "Eternal Rest"
I love this! I was trying to be whimsical, and I find humor in it too. So I'm glad you saw it.
Also: Shut up, Beavis.

Nice writing Ted.
Nice quatrain yourself.
We are men of letters and I’m pleased to have your company.
Loved this!
Thank you, Sam! Would love to reconnect.

There's also a cemetery tucked in between Perimeter Mall and I-285 in Dunwoody, GA.

Oh wow — thank you for this. Lots to explore.

He actually visited that cemetery with me many times. He loved it too.
He’d also admire this essay, no doubt.
